How is Treatment done?
Lip augmentation is a procedure that creates fuller, plumper lips and reduces fine wrinkles around the mouth. Lips are injected with collagen or with fat transferred from another part of the patient’s body. Both liquid collagen and fat are absorbed and repeat treatments are necessary to maintain results
Injection of fillers and fat into the lips is an easy way of enlarging or shaping the lips. Collagen is commercially available through plastic surgeons, but before having this procedure, you must first pass a collagen allergy test. Its advantages are, it does not require surgery and it is relatively inexpensive.
A procedure can take up to two hours your surgeon will likely use local anesthesia (painkiller applied directly to the lips) for injections. You will be required to stay in the hospital for one day for observation.
Results
Lip augmentation consists of a variety of procedures designed to give a person more defined and fuller lips. Besides enlarging the lips, lip fillers or implants are also used to balance the upper and lower lips. The results are temporary lasting 2 to 4 months.
How Long Will My Recovery Take?
Your recovery will depend on your lifestyle and which procedure you undergo. If you are having injections, your recovery can take just a couple days. However, any swelling or bruising can last longer.
If you are having surgical implants or grafts, your recovery can take up to two weeks after the surgery.
It may be necessary to take some time off work. You will need at least three days off from work, at minimum. If you are physically active, you will not be able to exercise for a few days after injections and perhaps for a few weeks after surgical implants.
